Work based on Goal, Not Mood

Waiting for right mood to strike is not good way to do something, especially when talking about work.

the mood is like a weather, it sometime come, sometime not, when it not, how can we do the work, if doing it we need in the mood first?

This sound very cliché, like everyone know that you have to do your work no matter if you are in the mood or not, you have to do do what you need to do.

that is straight forward thing if you work for someone else or working on something that has immediate consequence.

if you don’t do your work your boss tell you to do, you certainly get immediate consequences of getting fired from your job and losing your income

but how about creative work? how about work that you don’t need to take immediately or the effect on you choosing between working now on it or not, is far away.

your work also don’t have definitive result, the work you do could be generating you fortune or could be worthless

that is hard, without mood, how can you take the work, how can you force yourself to do a thing you don’t like todo at the moment?

the answer is you don’t use mood to do the work, you have to put it aside, especially on creative work.

even if your job is what you passionate, even if you love your work, love your job. the mood of working is not always there, there is always time you don’t want to do it when you need to do it.

The Answer

how I solve this is that I give up working solely based on mood alone, now I work based on goal and plan.

The goal and plan is more reliable source to do the work than mood alone

The goal say that you need to do what you need to do, even if you don’t feel like it. it is like having a boss, that you need to obey. but the boss itself is a goal & plan.

it is hard to do if you don’t have strong ethic within, the ethic between you and yourself, it is not ethic between you or other people, it is ethic you have with yourself.

some people have strong internal ethic, like they are born in to it and majority of people don’t!

but it can be cultivated, if you do it repeatedly and long enough, it will become part of yourself, your first try maybe not generate satisfying result but with time and effort, you will get yourself there

the reward is that, you become someone who work based on goal, the mood does not affects you negatively, if combine with the goal, the mood can help, absolutely. it is like a boost in a car, the fuel is the goal and the boost is the mood.

you can’t expect boost alone to drive you to destination, you have to have the fuel, then the boost can really help you go there faster
